It is not a state secret that a wedding can be an intricate and elaborate event. Today?s weddings have a guest list of approximately 136 people. Many (35%) are held outdoors. Tents, tables, chairs and even dance floors have to be rented for these functions. One of the most fun things to have at one of these wedding is a chocolate fondue fountain.

A couple can get a chocolate fountain rental from their caterer. The chocolate fondue fountain is an appliance which supplies melted chocolate in what looks like a water fountain. They are typically two to three feet tall. They look a lot like a volcano with a crown on top. The chocolate itself can be milk, white or dark. Guests can dip a number of foods in the fondue. Some examples include:

  1. Fruit. Fruit plus chocolate fondue equals wonderful. The best fruits are strawberries and maraschino cherries. Other options include slices of pineapple or bananas, oranges grapes, kiwi and any dried fruit. Caterers make sure the fruit is really dry. If you try this at home, any moisture on the fruit can get into the chocolate in the fountain and ruin its consistency so do not use frozen fruits unless they are extremely dry. Small fruits like blueberries and raspberries are too tiny and they will just be swallowed up by the fondue fountain.
  2. Desert foods. Most desert foods work well with chocolate fondue. That includes pieces of Rice Krispie Treats, donuts, cake (Angel food or pound are the best) and just about any kind of cookie. The variety of cookie that works is large and includes peanut butter cookies, ginger cookies, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, graham crackers, Oreo cookies and chocolate chip cookies. If you or your guests really have a sweet tooth, you can try candy. Gummy Bears, marshmallows, just about anything that goes well with chocolate will work. Make sure your caterer knows what your preferences are, if you have a favorite cookie or candy, they can make sure that is on hand for the special day. If you are making this kind of fondue at home, avoid any cake or sweet that can crumble easily as it will just be gobbled up by the fondue fountain.
  3. Get your salt fix with your sugar fix. People love mixing sweet and salty. Consider putting pretzels and potato chips on the menu if you plan to rent a chocolate fondue fountain. Crackers also work. One thing you may not think about but will please any crowd that likes bacon. If you have really crisp bacon, it is delicious covered in chocolate fondue. It is for that reason that you can buy chocolate covered bacon. Your guests will not forget a wedding that serves chocolate covered bacon.

Chocolate fondue fountains work best at weddings that feature a buffet rather than a sit down dinner. Nearly 38% of couples go that route with their wedding as opposed to the 34% who opt for a sit down dinner. It should also be noted that these fountains can be a bit messy but they are totally worth it!
