No matter where you go or who you talk to, most people are bound to agree that chocolate is universally good. It’s sweet, comforting, and just all around tasty. But it’s much more than just a treat to indulge in every once in a while! Here’s a few fun facts you may not have known about chocolate.
Chocolate is a mood booster
Chocolate is not only a delicious, sweet treat to indulge in, it’s scientifically proven to make you feel better. That’s right! Chocolate contains a chemical called serotonin, which induces feelings of happiness and can even help curb feelings of depression. While more women eat chocolate than men, the effects on the human mood are exactly the same. So if you’re having a bad day, those gourmet chocolates really can help put a smile on your face.
Sugar rush doesn’t equal caffeine high
Contrary to popular belief, the rush people often feel after eating chocolate is not a caffeine high. Chocolate actually has a very minimal amount of caffeine in it! for every one ounce bar of milk chocolate, there are at most five or six MG of caffeine. That’s significantly less than coffee, or even tea! So eating a little bit of chocolate before bed won’t keep you awake, but it may cause some weird dreams.
Dark chocolate is good for you
You read right. Dark chocolate, and all chocolate for that matter, contains flavonoids, which are naturally occurring phytochemicals that can have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on the body. In fact, they have even been known to help reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these are most present in unsweetened dark chocolate, so don’t go straight for the gourmet chocolate truffles and claim heart health!
White chocolate isn’t actually chocolate
Chocolate comes from the cacao tree, and is then blended with dairy products to create the creamy, melt in your mouth, chocolate you buy at the store. But white chocolate, that dirty impostor, doesn’t contain any chocolate solids! It is instead made with cocoa butter and other dairy products. So it may not have the same effects that milk and dark chocolate do.
You can have chocolate delivered to your door
Perhaps the most important fact of all, you can have gourmet chocolate gift boxes delivered to you. These boxes can get pricey, but the quality of chocolate inside is well worth it. And not only can you have gourmet chocolate gift boxes delivered to you, you can have them sent as gifts! It doesn’t have to be a holiday to send our some beautiful gourmet chocolate gift boxes. Well what are you waiting for? That chocolate isn’t going to eat itself, though it may wish it could!
