Ahh, ceviche. That delicious, low-calorie dish that makes for the perfect, refreshing snack or appetizer. As easy as it is to make — all you have to do is let some raw fish marinate in citrus juice over night — it’s even easier to make it extraordinary. All you have to do is tweak the recipe a little. Here are just a few of the awesome things you can do.
Combine Juices!
Most people will stick to one juice, and one juice only when they make ceviche. Typically, they either use lemon or lime juice, as those two fruits are particularly acidic, and will “cook” the raw fish pretty well. However, that doesn’t mean you have to only use one juice. Why not combine lemon and lime together? You could even add hints of orange and grapefruit to the mix, too, if you’re so inclined.
Spice It Up!
Technically, all you need to make ceviche is the fish and the juice, but why stop there? There are tons of great ingredients you can add to create a more flavorful, sumptuous dish. Try adding onion, tomatoes, serrano chiles, cilantro, or even avocado. To spice it up, you could also add some salt, oregano, cayenne, or even tabasco.
Get Fishy!
Most people like to make ceviche with tuna, tilapia, or shrimp, but you could realistically make it with any type of fish. Why not get exotic and try using shark, squid, mackeral, salmon, or something else you might not have originally considered.
